Local Organising Committee
Mary Shilalukey Ngoma Senior Lecturer and Consultant Paediatrician/Neonatologist Child Health/International Health Dept of Pediatrics and Child Health, School of Medicine, University of Zambia Member of the Local Organising Committee for ISSBD 2010 Member of the International ISSBD Scientific Program Committee
Interest in infectious diseases and growth and development in the newborn children, and adolescent. I gravitate towards multidisciplinary research, with epidemiologists, neurologists, psychologists, and others, who deal with developmental issues to a greater detail. We are currently working with two pilot districts to implement community based newborn care in order to save lives of newborn babies within the community where they are born. We also conduct national training, identifying child immunization gaps, with Ministry of Health, Zambia, to support weakly performing districts. I recently retired as founder Chairperson of the multidisciplinary University Committee on HIV and AIDS, which addressed issues of coordination and strengthening prevention care and support in the community response to HIV and AIDS. I believe in transformational multidisciplinary research and interventions, where appropriate.
